We are excited to announce the launch of our fundraising campaign to support the transformation of an existing classroom into a new fitness and training centre at Whistler Secondary School. The project aims to increase opportunities for student physical and mental wellness at school and will be developed in the summer, with the space opening in September for the 2025-26 school year.
The project is unique in that it will provide a dedicated space for students to engage in fitness and training activities, unlike other schools in our district. With the support of School District 48 and Whistler Secondary School, our goal is to create a space that can serve our 490 students and alleviate weekday demand at Meadow Park Sports Centre.
The new Fitness and Training Centre will focus on equipment to support cardiovascular health, strength training, and balance, recovery and rehabilitation. It will also be supported with curriculum and training programs developed by Whistler Secondary School’s Physical Education department staff. The space will be available for rental by the community outside of school hours.
Support from Local Organizations and Donors
The project’s $250,000 capital campaign is launching with $76,000 (30 per cent) of funds already committed by the Whistler Secondary School Parent Advisory Council’s Capital Projects Committee, as well as generous donations from Whistler Secondary School, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Community Fund, and the WSS graduating class of 2025.
Applications for funding from local government (RMOW CEP) and other non-profit foundations and organizations (Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, Whistler Healthcare Foundation, Real Estate Association of Whistler, etc.) are underway, as well as fundraising efforts from local businesses and the school community.
